Tropane Alkaloids are plant alkaloids like scopolamine (hyoscine), atropine, and hyoscyamine, that come from certain plants in the nightshade family like Belladonna, Datura, Henbane, Angel's Trumpet, Mandrake, Scopolia, Solandra, and a few others. When ingested in small amounts they have medicinal qualities that can treat a number of different ailments. When used in larger quantities the plant is hallucinogenic and can cause severe delirium anywhere from 12 hours to 3 days. Residual hallucinations and effects on vision and the brain can last up to 2 weeks. Severe cases of poisoning can result in permanent psychosis and death. Many teenagers in the southern U.S.A have died from experimenting with plants like datura and brugmansia for its hallucinogenic effects.
